Bread for the Masses

by: Kaye Woo

Waking up to that sweet smell of bread really brightens up my day! Especially when it’s as early as 5am, most people would have a hard time trying to straighten up from bed. But for me, the scent of bread that’s fresh out of the oven makes my tummy growl.

So this little bakery here is located along the highway of Northbay Boulevard and at the corner of Honorio Lopez Boulevard right here in Balut, Tondo (which is practically two blocks away from my home). But believe it or not, I’ve been waking up smelling that fresh aroma every day! (Unless I sleep late because of projects)

Counter ladies were kind of surprised when I told them
I would buy one of each bread for a school project =))
This bakery is named, “CD1 Bakery”.  They sell quite a variety of breads. They all look good for a local bakery, and even smell reaaally good, too. Since this is a local bakery, you can expect its part Sari-Sari store. So they sell sachets of shampoo, iced tea, soft drinks, instant food, and etc. So here’s the list of the good stuff:

  1. Ensaymada
  2. Ensaymada Bulaklak
  3. Mamon
  4. Putok
  5. Choco Roll
  6. Choco Bread
  7. Ube Roll
  8. Banana Cake Slice
  9. Putok (topped with sugar)
  10. Pusit
  11. Ube Bread (flower-shaped)
  12. Plaka Bread
  13. Choco Turnover
  14. Ube Bread
  15.  Plaka Bread (small)
  16. Cheese Roll
  17. Spanish Bread
  18. Cheese Bread
  19. Torta
  20. Kababayan
  21. Pan de Coco
  22. Pianono Roll Slice
  23. Monay (small)
  24. Monay (big)
Putting aside the fact that they all had very identical taste, I’d say it’s actually kind of worth it. Their Banana Cake Slice tasted really good, and their Pianono Roll Slice and Mamon were soft and sweet. Oh and their Torta had a great crumbly texture.

Overall, they make good breads which fit the taste of the masses! Every peso is worth it because, compared to other bakeries, they were quite generous with the size of each bread.

Bread Adventure

 by: Jason Ong

I was searching for a small bakery to try out some breads and to compare the goods that are sold in bakeries from what are done in our class in school. So while I was touring around Makati, I finally found a bakery. It’s located at Mayapis street. It looked like a sari-sari store selling breads and some candies, and other unbaked items.

It was my first time to actually compare prices of baked products because I never really was a fond of them until now that I started to appreciate it. The prices were just around Php2.50 per bread which is cheap since it is also satisfies your hunger and it is very easy to bring wherever you go. They sell Monay, Spanish bread, Star Bread, Pan de Coco, Ensaymada, and cookies and I tasted the ensaymada and the pan de coco. The taste was fair enough that can satisfy people, also you can taste the margarine in each bread.

Overall Henry’s bakery is a decent bakery to grab and go, the only problem is the location because they are sort of hidden in a farther street.
